Getting away from business travel is important. While we strive for balance in our lives, much of the time the decision is where you want to be out of balance rather than can you find a balance.
Learning how to relax can be equally challenging as we look at what it takes to prepare for the next bout of travel.
For that reason, my wife and I are moving to Kaslo, British Columbia.
Getting Away From Business Travel
Many people are asking me why am I moving to Kaslo, the answer is simple… nothing ever happens there.
Kaslo is an amazing community steeped in history and surrounded by some of the most splendid mountains you can imagine. But the plain truth is, it doesn’t grow.
Located on the shore of Kootenay Lake about 40 minutes north of Nelson BC, Kaslo is an adventure playground that actually sleeps at night.
It is a stark comparison to business and adventure travel where I seem to be on the go for almost 24/7 for large periods of time.
The region offers untold adventure opportunities and my wife and I had found ourselves traveling there annually for a reunion in a mountain hut at the foot of a glacier. The trip was so refreshing we ended up asking ourselves, why we didn’t just move there.
For me it allows me to come closer to my goal of getting away from business travel and I hope the chance to refresh in between adventures.
Of course, if you don’t know how to relax then Kaslo is probably not for you. It even crops up on some top ten list of places to see in Canada with Trip Advisor, but there is a caution that not much happens there – which is it’s attraction. So if you are like me and you like the idea of getting away from business travel then Kaslo should be on your list.
Of course my life is not all about getting away from business travel. But in truth while I am traveling, it is nice to know that I am heading to a place that I can call paradise!
